PARTICIPATORY INSTALLATION

Horizontal Chalkboard
MoMA Ps1
New York, 2025

Reimagining a familiar classroom tool, this horizontal chalkboard offers a participatory platform for gathering and dialogue. Seven plastic Monobloc chairs—vernacular furniture across Latin America and the Caribbean—hold notebooks with reflections by artists on artists whose works have shaped LA ESCUELA___’s approach to public learning. Braceli invites visitors to step onto the stage, sit with the writings, and contribute their own ideas. At its core, the chalkboard becomes a living surface of collective thinking: an active space where ideas are born, challenged, and reshaped.

The backs of the chairs are inscribed with consignas (slogans) from various social and political movements in Latin America. Spanning feminist, diasporic, and ecological movements, these consignas dialogue with the nearby map, which visualizes the region's diverse histories and ongoing struggles.
